Claridge’s

The famous Claridge’s (initially Mivart’s Hotel) was bought in 1855 by William Claridge’s. This former butler was intent on offering apartments for long-term residents and providing them modern technology and comforts such as electricity, lifts and en-suite bathrooms.During the Second World War, Churchill would use the hotel to hold all-night meetings with US army intelligence. Later during the twentieth century, many royal families who found themselves exiled from their own countries made their way to the Claridge’s. The hotel, with its 203 rooms, its one starred Michelin Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s and its very dedicated staff, is a sumptuous retreat for the business traveller.

Grosvenor House Hotel

Built in the 1930s, the Grosvenor Hotel was designed by Edwin Lutyens, and was the first Park Lane’s hotel. It stands on the site of a hospital for invalided soldiers during the First World War. During the Second World War, the place was used as a refuge by wealthy and powerful people, such as the French resistant Charles de Gaulle, who came there when he made his call to resistance.
